How to play along with a song on a guitar
Once you know the key of a song, you can easily play along with it and sound like a pro by using the following guitar techniques:
Hammer On: Pluck a note, then 'hammer' your finger onto the fret of the same string where another note in the same key lies.
Pull Off: Pluck a note, then pull off your finger at an angle, so it's like you're plucking an open string with your fret hand.
Slide Up: Pluck a note, then slide your finger up the fret to a higher note in the same key on the same string.
Slide Down: Pluck a note, then slide your finger down the fret to a lower note in the same key on the same string. This is a bit harder than a slide up because volume is typically lost.
Bend: Pluck a note, then wiggle your finger quickly within the same fret, giving a vibrato effect. Try wiggling back and forth on the fret as well as stretching the string up and down.
Strumming Chords: Each key has chords which sound nice along with it. Play those with varying strumming patterns. Also try picking the individual strings of the chord.
